MPTC Embraces 10 and Under Tennis with blended court lines
In an effort to embrace the USTA's 10 and Under Tennis initiative and to get ready for the 10 and Under tournament in June, the MPTC will be painting the "blended" court lines on all the outdoor courts and the indoor courts at the Eldon Roark center. The majority of this project (75%) will be funded by a grant from USTA. The remainder (25%) will be provided by the City Division of Park Services. The blended lines accommodate the 10 and Under and 8 and Under Tennis formats (60' and 36' courts) by placing light blue lines with the existing white lines on the full sized courts.
When the project is completed, the MPTC will have one of the top 10 and Under facilities in the South. "This is the future of junior tennis," said MPTC Executive Director Stephen Lang. He said the MPTC is "leading the way" by implementing the 10 and Under Tennis initiative at our centers. "We want kids training on the right courts," he added. He believes the kids and the adults will quickly get used to the blended lines and the tennis community will benefit from our latest commitment to making tennis more accessible and fun for our young players.
